Field Wisdom with Dr. Kalule
Uganda’s top g.nut breeder walks the fields with COFIA farmers
Fresh off a five-day groundnut agronomy training, Dr. Kalule—Director of Research at NaSARRI and Uganda’s leading groundnut geneticist—hit the ground again for a mid-season visit with COFIA farmers.
Over two days, he toured farmer gardens in Petta, Iyolwa, Serere, and Magola villages to see how rural farmers are applying the improved techniques: proper spacing, line planting for easier weeding, and using disease-resistant, climate-resilient seed varieties like Serenut 14.
These visits reflect COFIA’s commitment to something powerful, connecting world-class agricultural expertise with the grass roots farmer. No lecture halls. Just hands in the soil, boots in the field, and knowledge in motion.
When rural farmers gain access to leaders like Dr. Kalule, yields increase, confidence grows, and communities transform field by field.
